Supervision

This page is for professionals who are either ready to begin their provisional hours as a psychologist under the College of Alberta Psychologists, or those who wish to add 400 hours of supervised training to add assessment as a competency.

I'm Dr. Mike Sornberger, and I meet all of the requirements to provide supervision under CAP Supervision Plans. Currently, I'm only taking on provisional psychologists for the 400 hours of supervision in assessment. I am not always able to take on new supervisees, but please feel free to reach out and we can chat about my availability and see if our schedules align.

I have worked in teaching and supervision in one way or the other for the past 15 years, and I see it as an extremely valuable service and an integral part of professional growth. To me, it's important that you get a valuable experience out of supervision that will help to propel you into independent practice.

Typically, I require supervisees to have completed my Foundations of Psychological Assessment course through the PAA, or have comparable training or experience. But reach out to me first before signing up for any course work, since I can't always guarantee I can take new folks on!

Our practice is situated on Treaty 7 land, the traditional territory of the Blackfoot confederacy: Siksika, Kainai, Piikani as well as the Îyâxe Nakoda and Tsuut’ina nations. This territory is also home to the Métis Nation of Alberta, Districts 5 and 6. As treaty people, and settlers on this land, we aim to honour and acknowledge all First Nations, Métis, and Inuit peoples as the traditional keepers of the lands we work and live on. This recognition is a beginning to the work of reconciliation and decolonization we are committed to as individuals, and as practitioners in the field of psychology, which has historically been an instrument of oppression rather than of liberation.
