About Us

Upswing Psychology was started in 2018 as a shared therapy practice by owners Mike and Meg. We offer different types of therapy based on each individual client's concerns, needs, age, and interest. Our services include individual therapy, family therapy, expressive therapies, and psychoeducational assessment, and we have a wide range of experience dealing with a wide variety of concerns that people often need support to navigate. We aim to provide a safe, welcoming, and warm environment for clients of all ages, cultural backgrounds, genders, and sexual orientations.

As we grew, we added assessment into our services. Dr. Mike is an expert in the area - when it comes to assessment, he has 15+ years of clinical experience, 10+ years of experience teaching assessment to graduate students, and has developed a 40-hour professional development course for the Psychologists' Association of Alberta. Dr. Mike personally conducts and/or supervises all assessments completed at Upswing.

Finally, we believe in contributing to the next generation of mental health providers. We have helped other practices begin and grow at our office, and we provide supervision to registered provisional psychologists.

Our practice is situated on Treaty 7 land, the traditional territory of the Blackfoot confederacy: Siksika, Kainai, Piikani as well as the Îyâxe Nakoda and Tsuut’ina nations. This territory is also home to the Métis Nation of Alberta, Districts 5 and 6. As treaty people, and settlers on this land, we aim to honour and acknowledge all First Nations, Métis, and Inuit peoples as the traditional keepers of the lands we work and live on. This recognition is a beginning to the work of reconciliation and decolonization we are committed to as individuals, and as practitioners in the field of psychology, which has historically been an instrument of oppression rather than of liberation.
