Giftedness Assessment

What is it?

Some academic programs in Calgary, such as the Gifted and Talented Education (GATE) Program, and the Westmount Charter School programs, require an intelligence test, administered by a Registered Psychologist.

In this case, only the cognitive (intelligence) component of the assessment is required.

What does the process involve?

Every assessment begins with an intake consultation and questionnaire.

First, we’ll set up an in-person or virtual meeting so that we can learn more about your situation and the questions you are hoping to answer through assessment. This gives you a chance to ask any questions you might have and make sure this is a good fit for you. This consultation takes about 30 minutes and is free of charge.

If you decide to proceed, you’ll be sent a secure online questionnaire to help us learn more about your/your child’s background, including medical, developmental, academic, social, emotional, behavioural, and cultural histories.

We will book a time to complete a standard, norm-referenced cognitive assessment that meets the requirements of the program(s) that you are applying to.

Once we have completed the cognitive assessment, your examiner will review the results and schedule a debrief session with you. If you/your child does not meet the giftedness criteria of your program(s), you will be offered the option of a brief report at a lower cost.

How much does it cost?

Giftedness assessment costs a flat rate of $1,250. If, however, you/your child does not meet typical giftedness criteria, we will offer you the option of a brief report costing $850.

Payment is made at the end of the process, and can be processed through debit, credit, or e-transfer.

Our practice is situated on Treaty 7 land, the traditional territory of the Blackfoot confederacy: Siksika, Kainai, Piikani as well as the Îyâxe Nakoda and Tsuut’ina nations. This territory is also home to the Métis Nation of Alberta, Districts 5 and 6. As treaty people, and settlers on this land, we aim to honour and acknowledge all First Nations, Métis, and Inuit peoples as the traditional keepers of the lands we work and live on. This recognition is a beginning to the work of reconciliation and decolonization we are committed to as individuals, and as practitioners in the field of psychology, which has historically been an instrument of oppression rather than of liberation.
