ASD Assessment

What is it?

Coming Fall/Winter 2025

ASD Assessment is a specialized form of assessment that helps to diagnose Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).

This involves all the information that would be gathered as part of a psychoeducational assessment, including cognitive, academic, social, emotional, and behavioural evaluations. It also includes a deeper dive into your/your child's social functioning, emotional regulation, and restricted or repetitive behaviours.

What does the process involve?

Every assessment begins with an intake consultation and questionnaire.

First, we’ll set up an in-person or virtual meeting so that we can learn more about your situation and the questions you are hoping to answer through assessment. This gives you a chance to ask any questions you might have and make sure this is a good fit for you. This consultation takes about 30 minutes and is free of charge.

If you decide to proceed, you’ll be sent a secure online questionnaire to help us learn more about your/your child’s background, including medical, developmental, academic, social, emotional, behavioural, and cultural histories.

Then, we’ll discuss the next steps, and book times for a cognitive assessment, academic assessment, and any additional testing that may be needed. Sometimes we may have questionnaires for parents and/or teachers to fill out, but this would all be discussed first.

We will also go over some assessment measures specific to Autism assessment. This typically includes the Autism Diagnostic Interview - Revised (ADI-R) and the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule, Second Edition (ADOS-2).

Once we have collected all the information we need, we work on interpreting and understanding the situation so we can answer the assessment questions. We prepare a report for you and we schedule a debrief meeting to go over the results. At that meeting, we go through the report together. We make sure there is plenty of time for any questions you might have. We also go over all the recommendations in order to ensure they make sense and are a good fit for your/your child’s situation. Once that meeting is done, we finalize the report and provide you with a signed copy.

How much does it cost?

ASD assessment costs a flat rate of $3,500. Payment is made at the end of the process, and can be processed through debit, credit, or e-transfer.

Our practice is situated on Treaty 7 land, the traditional territory of the Blackfoot confederacy: Siksika, Kainai, Piikani as well as the Îyâxe Nakoda and Tsuut’ina nations. This territory is also home to the Métis Nation of Alberta, Districts 5 and 6. As treaty people, and settlers on this land, we aim to honour and acknowledge all First Nations, Métis, and Inuit peoples as the traditional keepers of the lands we work and live on. This recognition is a beginning to the work of reconciliation and decolonization we are committed to as individuals, and as practitioners in the field of psychology, which has historically been an instrument of oppression rather than of liberation.
